The Ultimate Guide for Swenor Rollerskis: How to Choose the Right One?

The Ultimate Guide for Swenor Rollerskis: How to Choose the Right One?

Swenor Rollerskis was founded in 1981 in Sweden, born from a desire among professional skiers in Sweden and Norway to replicate the feeling of skiing during the off-season. Since the beginning, their mission has been to deliver a true ski-like experience for summer training.

In 1994, production moved to Sarpsborg, Norway, where Swenor continues to innovate and perfect their rollerskis.

Today, Swenor is one of the most trusted and widely used rollerski brands in the world.

Their equipment is used by elite ski and biathlon teams from Norway, Sweden, and the USA.

That Famous On-Snow Feeling

Swenor rollerskis are celebrated for their realistic ski-feel, closely mimicking the sensation of gliding on snow.

This is thanks to their soft, flexible frames and high-quality shafts combined with specially designed soft rubber wheels. These features create a smooth, stable, and responsive ride that’s ideal for both training and competition.

With decades of classic skiing heritage behind them, Swenor offers a broad range of rollerskis tailored for every skill level—from beginners to world champions.

Not sure which model to choose? Don’t worry—we’ve got you covered.

Skate rollerskis

Skate rollerskis are a popular starting point for many skiers. They’re designed to simulate freestyle cross-country skiing and typically come with narrow, soft-rubber wheels and bearings with built-in resistance.

Swenor offers several skate rollerski options, varying in frame length, material, and wheel speed.

Classic rollerskis

Classic rollerskis are slightly longer than skate versions and feature wider wheels. The rear wheels come with a ratcheting mechanism (the “kicker”) to allow diagonal striding—just like on classic skis.

They also include resistance in the bearings and use soft rubber for a smooth ride. Skiwax Europe carries a wide selection of Swenor classic rollerskis in various lengths, materials, and wheel speeds to suit different skier profiles.

What Are Swenor Rollerskis Made Of?

The wheels are crafted from Swenor’s custom rubber compound, and the build includes aluminum hubs, sealed bearings, axles, spacers, and hardware.

Wheel speed depends on the hardness of the rubber: harder rubber = faster wheels.

- Swenor rollerski wheel speeds:

  • #1 – Fast

  • #2 – Standard (most popular)

  • #3 – Extra slow

  • #4 – Slowest

Some wheels are also available in a racing version.

Pro tip: Most skiers do best with #2 standard wheels. Elite athletes sometimes swap in #3 wheels on the back for added resistance.

Wheel Sizes: Skate vs. Classic

- Skate rollerskis come with:

  • Small wheels (for junior/mini models)

  • Standard wheels (100×25mm) for all other skate models

- Classic rollerskis are available with:

  • Small, standard, or large wheels

Good to know:

  • Small wheels = for smaller skiers or juniors

  • Standard wheels = suitable for most users

  • Large wheels = for specialized or larger skiers

Frame Materials & Performance

The material of the rollerski shaft significantly affects the ride quality:

  • Aluminum: Lightweight and stiff; preferred by professionals for its precision and responsiveness.

  • Wood composite + aluminum forks: Found in high-end models like the Skate Elite; heavier but offers better vibration dampening and a more natural ski-like flex.

  • Carbon fibre: Combines stiffness and light weight with excellent dampening—ideal for those seeking both performance and comfort.

Bindings for Rollerskis

Rollerskis use the same bindings as cross-country skis—but with a twist. Due to the wear and tear of asphalt training, slide-on bindings aren’t recommended.

Important: Always screw your bindings directly into the rollerskis.

Models like Rottefella bindings that offer an extra locking mechanism are ideal.

Choosing the Right Swenor Rollerskis

Swenor Skate Aluminum, Long, and Extra Long

These aluminum models are customer favorites—durable, reliable, and ideal for both beginners and seasoned athletes. They're also widely used by clubs and teams purchasing matching fleets.

Swenor Skate Elite

This premium, Swenor Skate Elite model delivers the most authentic on-snow feel among Swenor’s skate rollerskis.

Built from a wood-fiberglass composite, it's a top choice for athletes who want to reduce road vibration and training fatigue.

Swenor Skate Mini & Junior

Perfect for young skiers:

Both models are made of lightweight aluminum and use smaller wheels for easy handling.

Swenor Alutech Classic & Alutech Elite Classic

Built tough, these are go-to classic rollerskis for everyone—from recreational skiers to Olympians.

Both models use standard-size classic wheels and are built for performance and durability.

Swenor Carbonfibre, Fibreglass, and Finstep

Looking for the ultimate snow-like experience in a classic rollerski? These three models deliver:

  • Swenor Carbonfibre: Lightweight with a soft flex and small wheels; surprisingly popular among heavier skiers for its excellent road feedback.

  • Swenor Fibreglass: The most popular of the trio, featuring standard wheels and medium flex.

  • Swenor Finstep: Largest wheels of any non-pneumatic rollerski; perfect for rougher terrain and those seeking stability.

Pro tip: Can’t decide? Go with the Fibreglass model—it’s the best all-rounder.
